Mary of Starting From Scratch chose 'The Most Extraordinary French Lemon Cream Tart' for Tuesdays With Dorie this week. These tarts (I made six 4" tarts instead of one larger one) were just as Dorie promised--profoundly satisfying.
I'm so glad to be a part of TWD. With the gazillion cookbooks and constant flow of food magazines amassed in my house, sometimes I just need to be told what to make. Often I am overwhelmed when considering my options, looking up 3 or 4 versions of a dish before cooking, and then at a loss for recreating a dish later. I've loved Dorie since Baking with Julia. Even so, this tart would never had been made it to our table except for TWD.
So, if you haven't made it, may I suggest that you do. And, if you can, use Meyer Lemons. The subtle floral note they add is lovely. And, if you make little tarts, you'll have lots of lemon cream left over. And even if you sneak spoonfuls like Dorie thinks you might, you'll still have enough left over to freeze for a future hot summer day in New England, when the lemon cream will once again float you away on a cool, citrusy light cloud.
P.S. Twelve hours later, but the man that I married (ie, my photographer) has returned from the office and retrieved my tart photo! Have a great day!

With all respect to your photographer, no pictures are needed with a description like that.
My orange cream (since oranges were on hand this week) is chilling in the 'fridge as I type, and I can't wait to try it. I know I'll make it again with meyers.
I too was really excited to hear that you could freeze the lemon cream.
I love the way you paint the picture with words. I could just see them all pretty! I used the meyer lemons in my orange cream tart.
Sounds yummy without the pictures!
I'm from New England too, only an hour from you in Rhode Island. Wasn't it a picture perfect day today for a lemon tart?
definitely sounds delish even without any photos! what a lovely description!

Lovely looking little tart!
I haven't read Baking with Juila but since getting Baking, I've been a die-hard Dorie fan!
What a great photo. I wish mine were so pretty. Great idea to make the individual tarts.
Ooh - I didn't even think to freeze the leftover cream. I just...well...ate it. By the way - I just read through the rest of your blog - your son is adorable!
