This week, Di of Di’s Kitchen Notebook chose French Chocolate Brownies for TWD.
They were simple to put together and sounded lovely.
Here they are about to come out of the oven--slightly puffed and slightly cracked. Smelling and looking good!
Instead of rum-flamed raisins, I tried fresh bing cherries flamed in brandy. Cherries were an idea inspired by a TWD comment from Carmella of The Food Duo. I already had cherries on hand--perfect!
The consistency-- incredibly, amazingly soft and tender--heavenly.
The flavor--almost none. Even after an overnight rest. I used 72% chocolate and couldn't taste it at all. Even the cherries retreated.
No wonder Dorie suggests covering these up with whipped cream, ice cream, chocolate sauce, the like.
Not my kind of brownie at all.
We had a yummy, many-coursed dinner, so I plated these up in small squares. Note to self--get some smaller plates.
One with a little more flavor...
I'm hopeful the next challenge will be delicious because Marie of A Year in Oak Cottage has chosen…La Palette’s Strawberry Tart. Mmmmmm!

Great job looks delish!
Sorry there wasn't enough flavor for you - maybe add some cocoa powder next time?
Love the powdered sugar sprinkled on them...looks very festive and fun like that.
I like the sort of "lost in the middle" look of the large plate...it looks very nice.
Thanks for the comment on my post!

Looks great! The flambeed cherries sound good to have by themselves with whipped cream or ice cream.
Looks yummy!!
awww....sorry these didn't meet your flavour expectations. Mine were great! I used continental dark chocolate with a cacao content of 72% and they were nice and chocolatey and fudgy! I was so tempted to use cherries as well. I hope the tart works for you next week. I agonized over which recipe to pick!
I love the pic of the beautiful plated brownie and also your opera cake. I'm looking forward to next week's tart.
I'm glad I made this, but probably won't repeat, and with 11 other brownie recipes in the book, I won't have to! By the way, your Opera Cake looks awesome! And I didn't know that DD had blueberry syrup!

Too bad you didn't like the flavor of these. I like the idea of adding brandy and cherries to this batter.
Your brownies looks yumm! The cherries sound wonderful!
yum! nice job and great photos!
( maybe i need to have a dinner party too, instead of just eating a batch of brownies!)
Bummer it wasn't a favorite but the rum cherries sounds... YUM!

Sorry you didn't enjoy these as much as I did, (I ate half the pan.) Your pictures are beautiful!
cherries in brandy?!? terrific... those must be delicious.. i was into something reallie chocolatey so i added white chocolate chips to mine. hehe.
That's a bummer that this recipe was a disappointment. I agree that they're not super fudgey brownies, but they definitely had flavor, or at least mine did. You even used 72% chocolate, go figure?
Lovely job!
Well, they look wonderful - maybe one of the other 10 brownie recipes will hit the spot!
I'm sorry these didn't work out, because they look delicious!
wow, I can't believe you didn't think these had flavor...ours had crazy flavor...such dark rich chocolate and I used raspberries. They were amazing. Yours look good even if they were not up to par on flavor..!
Although the flavors didn't hit the mark for you, the results look excellent.
Don't know what kind of brownie person you are, but if you're in the fudgy camp, this probably wouldn't fit the bill.
Your brownies do look so delicious!
I am sure your guests loved them.
Very nice-I love the oven pic!
Well, at least you probably didn't eat more than you had planned to like some people (cough) did.
Yum! Those look so thick and chocolately perfect!
You couldn't taste the chocolate? Oh, that sucks. Gorgeous pics, though!

sorry you didn't like these that much but they look great!
Too bad these weren't the brownies for you!
I'm sorry to hear that the taste didn't live up to the smell. These weren't my favorite brownie either, though I thought they were decent.
I'm sorry that you didn't care for the taste. They look pretty on the plate though!
These were exactlly right for me, but you're sure to find a better one in the other recipes!
These weren't my kind of brownies either. Funny, I thought the same thing about the chocolate, but thought maybe it was just me!
Sorry for the lack of flavor. I tried cherries too, and I thought the cherry flavor could have been more prominent. The puffed picture looks neat!
Wow... no flavor even with brandied cherries? I'm sorry this one didn't work out for you. Next time for sure!
Well, at least now you know. They sure look good... wish I'd have put some whipped cream on mine.
I love dried cherries and cherries and chocolate go so well together. Sorry it wasn't quite what you wanted.
Too bad, you weren't satisfied with the flavours, but they look good though

Wow, so sorry that you didn't like them; but they look great!
How about "cut bigger pieces" instead of smaller plates. They look delicious. :)

These look wonderful! I agree these brownies could have been more chocolatey. I would add more bittersweet chocolate next time.
You have been tagged!
That's too bad that you ended up not liking these...hopefully adding some toppings helped a bit.
YUMMMMMMMM!!!!! Sorry you didn't like them, they look gorgeous!
Such a shame these brownies didn't give you the right kind of chocolate hit. Great photos though.
