Darling Illustrations by Constance Haslewood Victorian Children's Book A Merry Go-Round

Hi Everyone and Welcome. 

Today I have sweet illustrations from the 1888 children's book 'A Merry Go Round'. It was illustrated by Constance Haslewood. This children's book was published 126 years ago!  I love seeing what kids played with back then. Tea parties,dollhouses and of course Christmas have endured. Skipping rope and kite flying are still around. Not so sure about the May Queen. The tradition of a May Queen was not part of my childhood (50 years ago) so I do not know it's history. Sounds like a good topic for a future post!

Darling Children on Swings in Art and Illustrations. Late 1800's to Early 1900's

HI Everyone! So glad you have come for a visit. 

Swinging was always fun when I was a child. Playground or school swings  were fun but nothing like the one at  my Nana's house.My Grandparents had a huge old oak tree in their orchard. From one of the high strong branches hung a course rope swing with a weathered wooden seat.  The tree was back in the orchard beyond the garden fence. The perfect escape when a family gathering was no longer interesting for a child. Ferns and shrubs circled the area. It was a cool and private place to go. I wonder who originally hung the swing because that was a massive oak tree! After we had grown up my sister was married there,

Free Back to School Clip Art from 19th and early 20th Century Paintings, Illustrations 2 John George Brown Paintings

Is it to late for a back to school theme? The clip board and pads of writing paper are from a very old catalog.When I found them I knew they would make excellent clip art. If anything else they are just fun to share. Love the red tape one. I feel in love with the little girl painting. Hopefully a search for more illustrations by the artist goes well.The signature is hard to read so if any one has any information about the artist please let me know.

Getting to know you... Sweet Babies and Children ~ Free ClipArt

"Getting to know you, Getting to know all about you..." Isn't that a song from the 'King and I' movie? That is what I am doing now. Getting to know the new blogger "look". I waited until Blogger made me use the new upgraded page. Being in the habit of clicking first then seeing what happens has been my method in the past. Having invested so much time and love into bumble button that seems a little risky! So far it has been a smooth transition.
This has been 'saved' right? I clicked the save button but it hasn't turned to the old reassuring 'saved'.  Oh I see it goes from 'save' to a quick 'saving' then back to 'save'. No saved. That is efficient! Little changes like this are, well little.

Hi everyone. The following pictures came from the old magazines I mentioned earlier.

 The flowers and happy kids make me happy and wanting a field of flowers to play in!

Thursday is button day at the Legacy. My drawer must be full as I was not able to go in last week. 

 Everyone is so nice and I always have a good day. It won't be the same with Marie vacationing in Sweden but she must be having a good time! Looking forward to hearing about it when she returns.

Hi everyone! Welcome to you all.

Monday I went to the Legacy and dropped off cleaned and sorted buttons. Waiting for me was the most fabulous big batch of buttons. Once they are sorted I will post pictures for you button aficionados.

I have lots of Victorian and early 1900's kitty cat images.  If you need a Victorian image or picture of CATS you have found 18 of them!
