Hi everyone!
Before I start with todays batch of graphics I thought you might like to see some amazing buttons that have come into the Legacy. These are very rare plique-à-jour buttons. What a treat for button collectors and amateurs like myself! It is hard to find examples on line and now we have a set in two sizes. To quote Wikipedia;"Plique-à-jour (French for "letting in daylight") is a vitreous enameling technique where the enamel is applied in cells, similar to cloisonné, but with no backing in the final product, so light can shine through the transparent or translucent enamel. It is in effect a miniature version of stained-glass and is considered very challenging technically: high time consumption (up to 4 months per item), with a high failure rate. The technique is similar to that of cloisonné, but using a temporary backing that after firing is dissolved by acid or rubbed away.[1]"For the full article; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plique-%C3%A0-jour None of these have actual cracks. The clear green glass has ripples that reflect the sun differently.

What beautiful buttons. Never seen these before anywhere. Aren't you lucky?
Hi Marda, How nice to see your name! The buttons belong to the Legacy thrift store and will hopefully be sold soon. Until they find a new home I can enjoy them. Hope you are doing well.Louise
Wow!
Special buttons. As I also work in a senior center, that the funds will support such a dignified cause is even more special. Too modest to ask, but these should go into serious collections, or at least if bought for jewelry, to a jeweler who uses "no harm methods" to mount and preserve the original shanks.
The buttons are beautiful!
I must say it is very beautiful button. Your blog is really nice. I love to read your blog
I have some small buttons on a very old and tattered original card, they are from Czecho. They look like Plique a Jour but there is no metal to them, they are all glass. They are only about 3/8 inches wide at the widest and have raised areas of rose red and black glass beading on black glass with glass shanks. I have read that many times the metal is melted away leaving only the glass on Plique a Jour. I would be glad to send a picture to you if that would help.
Love the buttons in this article, thank you for sharing them. ---Sandra
